History

Bit of history: Shaganappi was originally home to the First Nations. It was annexed to the City of Calgary in 1910, and Shaganappi was established as a neighborhood in 1949. Shaganappi Golf Course: In 1915, Shaganappi Point became a golf course

Shaganappi Golf Course: In 1915, Shaganappi Point became a golf course. It was the second municipal golf course to be built in Canada. In its first year, 2,000 golfers visiting paid 25 cents to tee off for 18 holes. In 1988, the golf course was the launching point for hot air balloons celebrating the Winter Olympics.

Sandstone Quarry: Shaganappi was home to a sandstone quarry managed by William Oliver. They mined stone from the sides of the gully which is now Crowchild Trail, between Bow Trail and Richmond Road. Oliver Quarry provided sandstone for many buildings in the city, including parts of City Hall and Sunalta Elementary School.
